Bendis' New Imprint, Wonder Comics, Brings Back Young Justice

Updated: Jan 24, 2020

In a huge announcement out of New York Comic-Con yesterday, Brian Michael Bendis revealed that he is curating his own imprint at DC called Wonder Comics. The imprint will be in continuity and aimed primarily for a teen audience. The first title to come out will be "Young Justice", featuring Bart Allen/Impulse, Tim Drake/Robin, and the long awaited return of Conner Kent/Superboy. He will be working in the book with his Action Comics collaborator, Patrick Gleason.

Not only is he bringing back Young Justice, but 3 other new titles for the initial launch and more on the way. "Naomi" will be co-written by Bendis and David Walker, with art by Jamal Campbell. "Wonder Twins" will be written by Mark Russell, and drawn by Stephen Byrne. "Dial H for Hero" teams up writer Sam Humphries with artist Joe Quinones.

I have to say that this has to be the best comic book news I've heard in a while. Young Justice has long been one of my favorite books and Bart, Tim, Conner, and Cassie are characters that hold a special place in my heart. I can't think of anyone I would rather relaunch this book than Bendis. Not only has bringing back these beloved character's but he's also introducing new ones like Jenny Hex, the great-great-granddaughter of Jonah Hex. He's also introducing a Teen Lantern that's from Bolivia, he said she learns how to hack the lantern.

Bendis has written books starring teenagers before (Ultimate Spider-Man and Miles Morales) and they have been some of the best books I've ever read. He really knows how to write teen drama in a way that doesn't feel forced, it's relatable no matter how old you are. The Wonder Comics line is shaping up to be something really special and I couldn't be happier that Bendis is the on steering the ship.
