Tom King Removed From Batman?

As most of you have already read, there has been rumors circling that Tim King is being removed from BATMAN as of issue 85. Why this could possibly be happening is confusing, as King has stated many times that his run was planned to last for 100 issues, with issue 105 intended to be his last. This news shocked the comic book community when it first broke on Bleeding Cool yesterday.

While it hasn't been officially confirmed by either DC or King himself, their have been cryptic tweets by both King, where he's clearly thanking his legion of fans for their love and support.

So many kind notes. You all rock.

Also, frequent collaborator Mitch Gerads has posted a couple cryptic tweets of his own

I know things about a thing and it all means even better things.

Jumping to conclusions...

So what does this all mean?

I've read reports of declining sales as being the reason, which doesnt make sense. Maybe his planned changes to Batman were too drastic. Either way it seems like a rash desicion on DC's part. Why not let King finish his intended story, cutting it with only 20 issues left seems idiotic.

While there have been conflicting opinions on King's run, the majority seem to love what he's done. I personally think this has been one oft the strongest runs in the history of the character. The Bat/Cat Wedding could have been handled differently, but he long said thtat his run was all bout the reationship between Bruce and Selina. if they cut his run short we'll never get that conclusion we all hoped for. I understand that these are corporate charcters and that creators at the end of the day work for said

corporations, but it's a shame when creatives aren't allowed to see their vision completed.

With the current arc of "The Fall and the Fallen” premiering last week and leading into the much anticipated "City of Bane", it makes you wonder how King will finish his run. If he's truly done, it doesn't leave much time to wrap up his story. With "City of Bane" promising huge changes, it was supposed to be King's biggest Batman story yet. Who knows how this news could alter his story.

Tom King is one of the best writers in the medium today, and to see this happening is disheartening. It seem as though, if htis is true, this might not have been done on bad terms or with any ill will towards the award winning writer. Maybe there's a reason for this possibly happening. Perhaps there's something even better in the works.

An even bigger question, is who would follow King's run. I can't imagine anybody wanting to be the one to follow his run, depending on the outcome of his removal. Personally I hope the rumors aren't true. If they are true, I hope King get's to at least finish his story in some way or another. We as fans have at least earned that much, to be able to finish this story after following it for over 3 years.

I'm sure DC or King will be releasing some sort of statement in the next couple days, so stay tuned for information.
