Cosplay Spotlight: Rachel Hollon

Updated: Jan 24, 2020

What can I say about Rachel Hollon? She is one of the most talented cosplayers I've ever seen. Her cosplaying skills are equally matched with her sweet and bubbly personality. Seriously, while we were getting this interview together, she was easily approachable and at times would have me laughing.

She is extremely talented with her costume designs, always doing something unique. The makeup she does is absolutely insane. If you're lucky enough to meet her in person, don't be afraid to run up and say hi, she loves it.

Out of all the cosplayers, I've met or talked to, Rachel is probably my favorite. She's humble, sweet, and hilarious. Not to mention her costumes are badass.

If you want to check out more of her stuff. Follow her on Instagram: @facesbyrachie

COMIC LOUNGE: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

RACHEL HOLLON: Hi! My name is Rachie! I am basically a mix of a Disney princess and the clown princess of crime. I love everything super kawaii just as much as I love everything horror. So it’s hard to keep up with my wish lists cuz I literally want it ALL! LoL. I’m a really good listener but I ammm Dory in real life...as you know since you only had to remind me about this quiz oOo, 200 times. And if I could have one super power it would be telepathy so I could control everything and everyooone ️🖤 mWaHaHaHaaaa...JK...I’d want it to create world peace of course.

CL: What inspired you to start cosplaying?

RH: I’ve just always loved dressing up and started “cosplaying” before I even knew it was a thing. Then I was lucky enough to get a great enough response that I fell into doing it professionally. It’s legit my dream job and I feel so blessed to be able to do what I love for a living.

CL: How long have you been cosplaying?

RH: I’ve been cosplaying all my life...I just didn’t realize it till it became more of a trend. But I’ve been lucky enough to be cosplaying professionally since Suicide Squad came out in 2016.

CL: Who are some of your favorite characters to cosplay as and why?

RH: Harley is definitely my fave because I don’t have to really try to get into character. I just identify with her as a person and we have so many similarities as far as appearance and behaviors. Plus she’s just so fun! I also really love being Misa Amane from Death Note for similar reasons. It’s kinda cheating when you’re already the character I guess but I lean more towards them. A character that is totally outside of my norm that I have fun playing would be Cruella De Vil. She’s so wicked...and at first you feel bad... but sometimes it’s good to be bad! Plus, she’s just sooo fabulous & I have a lot of fun with the fashion aspect of her!

CL: What have been some memorable moments you've experienced while cosplaying?

RH: My favorite moments are when people who have been following and supporting you finally meet you in person. Or when the young ones get super excited to see you bring their favorite character to life! I just love to make people happy. That’s really what it’s all about.

CL: How long do you see yourself continuing to cosplay?

RH: Honestly, I’d love to cosplay for the rest of my life. I’ve always liked to dress up and create random themes for events all growing up before I even knew what “cosplay” was. I was forever in casual cosplay without even realizing it. LoL. And kids in cosplay always make my life so I’m dying for the day when I can have my own lil cosplay family. It’s just the cutest!

CL: What comics/shows are currently reading/watching?

RH: Right now my schedule is so crazy so I’m unfortunately behind on like everything. But I love binging everything when I get the chance. Unfortunately it’s usually not till I run myself down so bad that I have to take a break or I’ll die. LoL. 🤷🏼‍♀️

CL: What do you find most rewarding about what you do?

RH: Honestly the love and support I get back from all of my supporters. The kids are especiallyyyyy adorable. The way their face lights up just melts my heart. Literally every sweet comment, fan art, letter, gift, any token of appreciation is so appreciated and makes all the hard work totally worth it. And of course, it’s just an incredible feeling to be able to transform into your favorite characters. It’s pretty addicting actually. LoL.
