The Comic Lounge Picks of the Week (7/31)

Updated: Jan 25, 2020

Last week saw the one of the biggest debuts in recent memory, HOUSE OF X. It was by far one of the most talked about books. But for me it was THE FLASH #75 and JANE FOSTER: VALKYRIE #1, that also really stood out for me last week.

This week sees not only the much anticipated continuation of Hickman's X-Men with POWERS OF X (ten), but also 2 new Batman books from Scott Snyder. These 3 picks alone make this one hell of a week for comics.

Another issue of Snyder and Capullo's final Batman book.

After that insane debut issue. This is my overall pick for the week. This is unlike any Batman story you've ever seen. You have two masters of their craft, gifting us with one of the most entertaining comic books ever published.

Plus, unlike those other Black Label books, it's actually on time.

Here's the solicit:

The world has been destroyed, and Batman is on a quest to find out who's responsible. But when villains from his past begin to complicate things for the Dark Knight, he finds an unlikely ally in a place known as "the Plains of Solitude."

I mean do I really need to sell you on this?

This is a brand new era of X-Men comics, and the best part is that we have new issue every week for the nest 11 weeks. All written by the great Johnathan Hickman.

This is set to show us the future of what Hickman has up his sleeve. HOUSE OF X  sold out last week, so you better make sure you cop this before it  flies off the stands.

Here's the solicit:

FEAR THE FUTURE! Superstar writer Jonathan Hickman (INFINTY, NEW AVENGERS, FF) continues his revolutionary new direction for the X-Men. Intertwining with HOUSE OF X, POWERS OF X reveals the secret past, present  and  future of mutantkind, changing the way you look at every X-Men story before and after. You do not want to miss the next seminal moment in the history of the X-Men!

A series so good, they had to add another issue.

This is it, the stunning conclusion to the most horrific Batman tale yet. Snyder and Jock were made for a story like this. With this story deeply rooted in the overall story DC is telling across their line of books, this is an essential chapter that can't be missed.

Don't care about that mega story, fear not, this is a story that stands completely on its own.

How will Batman cure himself from the Joker toxin? What will become of the Batman Who Laughs? Find out all of that and more this Wednesday.

Here's the solicit:

It's the final showdown between Batman and the Batman Who Laughs... but how do you defeat a foe who knows your every instinct and every move? Bruce Wayne will have to outsmart Bruce Wayne in this ultimate test of good versus evil. You can't miss this finale to the epic miniseries that will tear up the very foundations of Gotham City!
