The future is here!!!

When it was first announced that Bendis was going to reintroduce the Legion of Superheroes and subsequently write a new LOSH book, the comic community jumped for joy. The Legion is one of the most beloved franchises in all of comics. The fans are some of the most diehard fans you'll ever meet. This has been long overdue and I, along with everyone else, couldn't be happier to finally have a Legion book to read again.

My only problem is that you don't even see them in this issue.

But that doesn't mean that I didn't love the issue, I just wish we actually got to see the Legion.

The main story focuses on Rose Forrest a.k.a Rose and Thorn as the lead. She wakes up one day and comes to the realization that she's immortal. She sets out seeking answers to her condition, which takes her on a 1000 year fieldtrip through the various future timelines of the DCU.

Bendis take us on a wild ride through the future, using Rose as our emotional compass. As we travel through these various points in the future, we meet Supergirl, Kamandi, Batman Beyond and Tommy Tomorrow, to name a few. Bendis gives all of us diehard DC fans something to gleefully cheer for as we see all of the different future connected for the first time in DC's history. While there is no reason given for these various time jumps, it was still very enjoyable.

The art team assembled for this massive undertaking is phenomenal. From the bombastic opening pages from Jim Lee and Scott Williams, to the futuristic world of Batman Beyond illustrated by Dustin Nguyen. This is one beautifully illustrated book. While some could say having multile artist would feel disjointed, I think it was perfectly executed on this book. Andre Lima Araujo is someone I wasn't familiar with before this book, but his futuristic world is full of detail and encapsulates a world full of "hustle and bustle".

My favorite pages though, would have to be the Kamandi pages by Andrea Sorrentino. The bleak and dark future coupled with the characters created by Jack The King" Kirby, were executed flawlessly by Sorrentino. I was gushing over every page. But then again I have never been disappointed by Sorrentino.

Overall, this issue was a solid book. Again my only gripe is that we didn't get to see the Legion. But I like what Bendis is setting up, and I cant wait to see what this mystery holds. What I'm really curious about, is why he's using  Rose/Thorn. But I guess we'll have to wait for next issue. With the Legion debuting in next months issue, there is a lot to be excited for. Not to mention that this is all leading into the new LOSH series by Bendis and Ryan Sook. So stay tuned guys, and remember....

LONG LIVE THE LEGION!!
