The Comic Lounge's Picks of the Week (10/23)

As I sit here trying to come up with something witty or cool to say, I realize I don't have to. We have a bunch of great recs for you guys for this week, so give em a shot you won't regret it.

Another great installment of this Eisner Award winning series. We catch up with Leo, albeit younger, the character that started it all. This has been one of my favorite arcs and it just gets better with each issue.

Here's the solicit:

Teenage Leo Patterson takes center stage as his best friend, Ricky Lawless, starts to drag him down a destructive path. CRUEL SUMMER, the story of the last days of series favorite Teeg Lawless, continues as BRUBAKER and PHILLIPS deliver the best monthly comic on the market. And as always, CRIMINAL contains back page art and articles only found in the single issues.

After last issue's crazy cliffhanger I can only imagine what Williamson has in store for us Flash fans. This continues to be one of DC's best books while flying somewhat under the radar. Be sure and give this book a shot, it's a must for any DC fan.

Here's the solicit:

"The Hunter and the Hunted" part two! This is one issue you cannot miss! The last gasp of the Speed Force! Can Barry Allen and Hunter Zolomon work together long enough to beat death and save the Speed Force? Can Kid Flash and Avery, the Flash of China, discover what the Rogues want within the wreckage of Iron Heights? Even if the Flash survives, nothing will ever be the same again for the Flash family!

This continues to be one of Marvel's best books. Ever since Al Ewing gave us this new and interesting take on the Green Goliath, it's been superb every issue. This is some of the best storytelling in comics and the best Hulk has ever seen. This is supposed to be a monumental issue, so make sure you cop one before it's sold out.

Here's the solicit:

GROUNDBREAKING DOUBLE-SIZED ISSUE! •  You've never read a Hulk comic like this before. You've never read a Marvel comic like this before. •  The heat death of our universe has come and gone. The Hulk is finally dead. Now, billions of years later, the Ninth Cosmos cowers... •   ...before the BREAKER OF WORLDS.

X-Fans come hither, we have another new X-book in the ne new "Dawn of X" line. Gerry Duggan has gathered a team of mutants that area also moonlighting as pirates? I know the idea souns a little weird, but just look at that team on the cover, plus it's all part of Hickman's master plan. So I recommend at least giving this first issue a shot.

Here's the solicit:

THE X-MEN SAIL AT DAWN! Even in this glorious new dawn, Mutantkind faces hardships and oppression from their human counterparts. Led by Captain Kate Pryde and funded by Emma Frost and the Hellfire Trading Company, Marauders Storm, Pyro, Bishop and Iceman sail the seas of the world to protect those hated and feared!

This book is smart and sexy. It intersects at science and sex. In a future where science is severely underfunded, a group of intellectuals decide to do porn to find their own research! A must read for fans of science fiction and comedy!

Here's the solicit:

In the near future, space travel is ludicrously expensive and largely ignored. Enter Christine Ocampos, inventor of the Star Shot teleportation device. Her big idea: She'll travel to new worlds, engage-intimately-with local aliens, and film her exploits for a jaded earth populace trying to find something new on the internet. Now, Chris and her merry band of scientist-cum-pornstars explore the universe, each other, and the complexities of sex in MONEY SHOT! A story about scientists having sex with aliens for the glory of mankind-and money.

After the beautiful journey saying goodbye to Heimdall I'm left wondering where Jane goes from here. This issue we are going to see her meet up with Annabelle, who shared physical form with the previous Valkyrie, and find out more about her powers. Should be cool seeing what new tricks Jane picks up.

Here's the solicit:

Valkyrie is back on Earth - and searching for guidance on her powers and her larger mission. The one woman alive who might have the answers is Annabelle Riggs - but will she be on this side of the grave for long? Meanwhile, Bullseye's mysterious employer is watching...and he has plans of his own for the Gods of Asgard!

Me am not excited for oldest issue of Terrifics. Me not looking forward to your heroes circle on Bizarro and his enemies.

That's really hard to do, but yeah, I'm really pumped for Terrifics #21. This is the last of the New Age of Heroes books that came out of Metal and I'm glad that it's been such an enjoyable run so far.

Here's the solicit:

Bizarro and the Terribles have invaded Earth-0 with a mission: turn back the clock. Armed with a time machine given to him by Lex Luthor, the one and only Man of YesterdayTM is determined to reverse progress in the Multiverse to a simpler time, a stupider time you might say. A bizarre time. So who's going to stop this regression transgression? The Terrifics, that's who!
