The Comic Lounge's Picks of the Week (11/27)

Updated: Jan 25, 2020

If you guys have been reading this book, you know how amazing it is. This is by far my favorite DC book. Stay tuned for my wrap-up review after every arc.

Here's the solicit:

"Rogues' Reign" continues! The warped world of the Rogues has turned everything surrounding Iron Heights prison into a wicked hellscape! But there is hope in the darkness, as the Flash battles his way back from the brink and discovers a way to reverse the Rogues' reign once and for all. The only problem? To do that he must venture out in the path of the tumultuous terrain of the Weather Wizard Kingdom- where ice dogs and lightning monsters lurk in the darkness at every turn!

The Dark Multiverse One-Shots have been nothing short of amazing, well except the Blackest Night one, which was kind of a letdown. But I have high hopes for this one. Infinite Crisis was one of my favorite events < I can't wait to see this dark spin on the classic event.

Here's the solicit:

DC's mega-event "Infinite Crisis" saw the destruction of the Trinity, the rise of Alexander Luthor and Superboy-Prime, and the rebirth of the Multiverse...but it all started with Ted Kord, the Blue Beetle, who saw it all coming and died with secrets that could've saved the world. But...things happened differently in the Dark Multiverse! Not only does Blue Beetle survive- he thrives! And after killing Maxwell Lord himself, Ted sets off a chain of events that irreversibly alters the lives of the Justice League and his best friend, Booster Gold. In trying to prevent a crisis, Blue Beetle becomes the Crisis...and the Dark Multiverse will never be the same.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Criminal is the best comic on the stands and this issue was flawless. Things are heating up as we near the conclusion of this epic arc.

Here's the solicit:

The CRIMINAL epic moves toward its brutal climax, as Private Detective Dan Farraday reenters the scene... while Teeg prepares for the biggest heist of his career. And as always, CRIMINAL contains back page art and articles only found in the single issues.

WOW! what an amazing debut this was. Image continues to pump out hit after hit. Expect this book to be yet another one. The mix of crime thriller and supernatural was amazing. Rodney Barnes and Jason Shawn Alexander have created a masterpiece in the making.

Here's the solicit:

SERIES PREMIERE! "SINS OF THE FATHER," Part One-Featuring the show-stopping talents of SPAWN series artist JASON SHAWN ALEXANDER and the writer behind such hit shows as Wutang: An American Saga, Marvel's Runaways, and Starz's American Gods-RODNEY BARNES. When a small-town beat cop comes home to bury his murdered father-the revered Philadelphia detective James Sangster Sr.-he begins to unravel a mystery that leads him down a path of horrors that will shake his beliefs to their core. The city that was once the symbol of liberty and freedom has fallen prey to corruption, poverty, unemployment, brutality... and vampires. Welcome to KILLADELPHIA.

SCREAM: CURSE OF CARNAGE #1 Although I haven’t been able to read through all of the Absolute Carnage series, this arch seems promising. Here’s the solicit: OUT OF THE ASHES OF ABSOLUTE CARNAGE! ALL-NEW ONGOING SERIES! Patricia Robertson, Andi Benton, Donna Diego... it's all been leading to this as one of the original - and possibly strongest - offspring of the Venom symbiote at last stars in her own, self-titled ongoing series set in the Marvel Universe! But after the events of ABSOLUTE CARNAGE, what remains of the Scream symbiote as it was before? Does it even have a host?  What are their intentions? And what will a pair of web-slinging wallcrawlers have to say about it's presence in New York?

VALKYRIE #5 This art of Jane Fosters story has been my favorite so far. I like the comic relief that her horse is setting up but also that her past dealings are catching up to her as Valkyrie. Here’s the solicit: INTO THE ETERNAL DARKNESS! Valkyrie's enemy finally reveals themself to teach the guardian of the fallen an important lesson: Not every life can be saved. It's the explosive end of the first arc as Valkyrie faces the death that's been stalking her since issue #1!

Yes, the last issue had lots of action and a casualty so great that it's affecting the whole nation of Krakoa throughout the other X-Men titles. But that's not the real reason I'm pumped for this issue. It's Kid Omega.

Here's the solicit:

X-Force is the CIA of the mutant world-one half intelligence branch, one half special ops. Beast, Jean Grey and Sage on one side, Wolverine, Kid Omega and Domino on the other. In a perfect world, there would be no need for an X-Force. We're not there...yet.

Ta-Nehisi Coates has taken us through the land of the dead, through history and even across the stars. Ever since this latest run started of the king of Wakanda we've been left in the dark on how the Black Panther ended up where he did. As things come to a head in this arc, I'm eager to learn more about how we got to where we are now.

Here's the solicit:

THE INTERGALACTIC EMPIRE OF WAKANDA - TWO THOUSAND SEASONS part 6 LEARN AT LAST HOW THE KING BECAME A SLAVE! For months, you've been waiting to find out how T'Challa went from the king of Wakanda to the slave of an empire. Finally witness his fall from grace - and the rise of an enemy now poised to spread his empire to Earth.
