The Comic Lounge's Picks of the Week (2/12/20)

RYAN'S PICKS

FLASH #88

Do any of you guys remember the Rogue spotlight issue from Geoff Johns run? Well this is a lot like those ones, except this time we're introduced to a new adversary, Paradox. This is the prologue for the epic 750th issue, so you can't afford to miss this one.

Here's the solicit:

Witness the birth of Paradox! As a hero, the Flash helps as many people as he possibly can...but Paradox shows what happens when ordinary people pay the price for super-powered battles royal. What started as a happy life of family and science turned into a nightmare when the Turtle's attack on Central City rained down from the future-and now the story of the civilians caught in the crossfire will change the Flash's life forever!

GREEN LANTERN SEASON 2 #1

The best superhero comic of last year makes its explosive return. Morrison and Sharp are back with the next exciting chapter in this epic space opera on acid. Hal has a whole new set of challenges, including finding new Guardians and finally returning home to Earth?!?!?

Here's the solicit:

The team of writer Grant Morrison and artist Liam Sharp continue their bold new take on the Emerald Warrior in a wild 30-page second season opener! In the wake of the Blackstar incursion, Hal Jordan and his fellow Lanterns must pick up the pieces from that cataclysmic conclusion. Among them is Jordan's next critical mission: search for the next generation of cosmic immortals. Is the universe ready for...the Young Guardians?

GEN'S PICK

REAVER VOLUME 1

Picking this because of the Instagram rage it created when the first issue came out and Ryan gave it 8 out of 10 so I guess I had no other choice. I decided to wait for the trade and It’s finally here. I couldn’t be more excited.

Here’s the solicit:

Deep within the untamed continent of Madaras, a darkness builds that must be stopped at all costs. To prevent the end of this new world, the Imperials assemble six of their most despicable prisoners—a turncoat, a skin eater, a sorcerer, his bodyguard, a serial killer, and the Devil’s Son. They are Hell’s Half-Dozen. JUSTIN JORDAN (LUTHER STRODE) and REBEKAH ISAACS (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) create a grim fantasy comic for a post-Game of Thrones world.

TREVOR'S PICKS

SUPERGIRL #39

Ahh man! Supergirl is still sorta evil, sorta good right now and it's up to Wonder Woman to help her! After Diana's Lasso of Truth revealed Kara's return to her old self coming sooner than later, it has me excited for this issue as it comes closer to wrapping up Year of the Villain and to what lies ahead for Supergirl.

Here's the solicit:

After the Lasso of Truth reveals something unexpected about Supergirl's infection, Wonder Woman is quickly running out of ways to try to bring Kara back peacefully. Making matters worse, the government has sent robotic military backup to Smallville to deal with the possible atomic threat of Infected Supergirl-and neither Wonder Woman nor Supergirl is prepared for the innocent casualties this could mean for the town.

EXCALIBUR #7

I couldn't help but notice you might be a Teen Warwolf. It's cool, I'm a Teen Warwolf too and I'm saying that this new issue is one to keep an eye on as the rest of the Warwolves are making a glorious comeback this week as they are going up against Excalibur once again. I wonder if there will be some Mojo Warwolves in London.

Here's the solicit:

THE HUNTSMEN AND THE WARWOLVES! Excalibur faces an old foe - this time as the hunters rather than the game.

HAWKEYE FREE FALL #3

I wasn't sure where I was going to be when I picked up issue one of this series. The familiar art of Otto Schmidt bringing an archer with a particular color choice to life on page was alluring, but I wasn't sure if I would enjoy Rosenberg's writing after my last experience with one of his works. Ronin might as well kick my door down and smack me cuz this series is all around great! Rosenberg delivered an enjoyable 2 issues that were both funny and full of surprises. I can't wait to see what comes of them this issue!

Here's the solicit:

• As things around him are getting more dangerous, Clint Barton is being pushed to make some tough, and probably really bad, decisions. • Meanwhile the mysterious new Ronin is waging war against The Hood and Hawkeye is caught in the middle of it. • The Web of lies our Friendly Neighborhood archer finds himself caught in will have Spectacular ramifications when he is confronted by our Amazing secret guest star... • (It's Spider-Man. Shhh.)

RENEE'S PICKS

TARTARUS #1

I have been waiting for this book for a few months now! It’s sure to be a new favorite for all Science Fiction and action fans for sure. The story is great and the art is so unique.

Here’s the solicit:

SERIES PREMIERE! A new adventure series with all the sci-fi drama of Breaking Bad set in Mos Eisley! Promising young cadet Tilde is framed for crimes against the empire after discovering her mother was the ruthless warlord of the deadly colony Tartarus, a vital player in the galactic war. Now, Tilde's only way home may be to reclaim her mother's dark crown. #1 New York Times bestseller JOHNNIE CHRISTMAS (Alien 3) and artistic phenom JACK T. COLE (The Unsound) kick off this ongoing series with 44 big pages of story!

THE CLOCK #2

The second of 5 installments of The Clock is high on my list as I’m dying to know the secrets behind the mysterious cancer ravaging the world.

Here’s the solicit:

When aggressive cancer begins spreading through humanity like a virus, one scientist will sacrifice anything for answers. Is it a global eugenics conspiracy? The beginning of World War III? And can he get to the bottom of it before it takes what's left of his family?

BATMAN: PENNYWORTH RIP #1

Not sure how I feel about this one but I'm down to read it and see if it sparks my interest and how this will develop Batman as a character, I hope it’s not just a one off.

Here’s the solicit:

Alfred Pennyworth served the Wayne family for decades-even through the tragic loss of Bruce Wayne's parents. His death at the hands of Bane is the only event that could possibly compare to that fateful night in Crime Alley, and it leaves Bruce at a similar crossroads. If Alfred was the glue that held the Bat-Family together, how will Batman deal with that all falling apart? And if the Caped Crusader is to be truly alone, he might either hang that cape up once and for all...or double down and carry on with this vengeful quest forever. Batman: Pennyworth R.I.P. #1 celebrates the life of one of the most important people in the history of Gotham City, while also addressing questions about what's next.
