John Timms is a relative newcomer to the comics scene, but he's been at this for years. He hooked up with Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner on their Kickstarter, DELETE, and from their has quickly become a household name with his work on HARLEY QUINN.
Working on such a big name like Harley Quinn is a dream job, and John has been enjoying every minute of it. After Jimmy and Amanda left the book, John stayed on with new writer Sam Humphries.
HARLEY QUINN continues to be a huge seller for DC, and according to John there's huge things in store for the book. So get ready for a huge year for Harley.
Comic Lounge: How long have you been a comic book fan?
John Timms: Since I was a kid, I've always loved comics. I've always collected, American, European, Japanese, Latin America, any type.
Comic Lounge: How did you land your first comic book gig?
Timms: I worked in animation for so long, then met Tim Towsend who helped me get in touch with some Marvel editors, but in the process met Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner, who gave me my first job doing DELETE for a Kickstarter project. I learned a lot with Jimmy and Amanda. Then I did INHUMANS for Marvel, after which I went back to Jimmy and then DC and started on HARLEY QUINN.
Comic Lounge: With Harley Quinn becoming such a huge character over the last few years, how did it feel landing on such a high profile book?
Timms: It's incredible, I started doing some pages here and there, annuals and specials, then jumped into the main book joining my friend Chad Hardin, and I've been there ever since. It feels like a huge responsibility but at the same time a regular book so you don’t really think about it that much, you’re always working.
Comic Lounge: Were you always a big Harley Quinn fan?
Timms: Absolutely, as a former animator, I loved Harley and Batman in the animated series, and was always a super Harley Fan!
Comic Lounge: Are there any characters that you would love a chance to work on in the future?
Timms: Of course, Batman, Superman, WonderWoman, love all of them. Young Justice too. By the way I love the Vertigo characters a lot, Death, John Constantine.
Comic Lounge: What books are you currently working on?
Timms: HARLEY QUINN, I'm in the middle of a very cool arc with Sam Humphries right now. This year will close with a bang and will start with a bigger one.
Comic Lounge: Are there any projects, that haven't been announced, that you can talk about?
Timms: Not yet, but there’s always conversations. I'm exclusive to DC and love working with Harley so at the moment I'm all good. There will be a cool thing starting next year, but I can’t say anything yet. It's a Harley thing by the way.
Comic Lounge: What would be your absolute dream project?
Timms: There’s so many but I would love to partner Harley, Death and John Constantine.
