November 11, 2019

Happy Monday everyone!!! Here are our weekly picks for your viewing pleasure. There's a lot of good stuff out there and we're her to help you decide what to get. Hope you enjoy!

RYAN'S PICKS

FAMILY TREE #1

From the minute I saw the teaser page for this book, I knew I had to have it. Well.... I can honestly say it far surpassed my expectations. Lemire and Hester are a match made in heaven and this is already one of my favorite books.

Here's the solicit:

When an eight-year-old girl literally begins to transform into a tree, her single mom, troubled brother, and possibly insane grandfather embark on a bizarre and heart-wrenching odyssey across the back roads of America in a desperate search for a way to cure her horrifying transformation before it's too late.
But the farther they get from home, the more forces threaten to tear the family apart as fanatical cults, mercenaries, and tabloid Paparazzi close in, determined to destroy the girl-or use her for their own ends.
A new genre-defying series written by New York Times bestselling author JEFF LEMIRE (GIDEON FALLS, ASCENDER) and illustrated by acclaimed artist PHIL HESTER (Shipwreck, Green Arrow), FAMILY TREE combines mystery, action, and horror into an epic story about the lengths a mother will go to in order to keep her children safe.

GINSENG ROOTS #2

Any week with new Craig Thompson is a good week. This was another beautifully crafted issue. I can't say enough good things about the book. But that cover should speak for itself. Go buy this book, recommend it to your friend, and while your at it. buy an extra copy. Go support one of the greatest cartoonists of our generation on his awesome new book.

Here's the solicit:

Craig Thompson returns home, into the heart of rural Wisconsin, to the former global capital of ginseng cultivation. We meet his sister Sarah who was excluded from Blankets, and the Ginseng farmers who employed Craig and his brother as children. Craig explores the problems with autobiography, the nature of memory, and the editing that necessarily follows. Ginseng Roots is a masterful mix of personal history set against a background of global trade, corporate agriculture, and climate change.

TALES FROM THE DARK MULTIVERSE BLACKEST NIGHT #1

These one shots have been so much fun and remind me of the elseworlds books DC used to do when I was a kid. This might be the one I was looking forward to the most. BLACKEST NIGHT is my favorite DC event and I can't wairt to see how they alter the story for this one shot.

Here's the solicit:

What could be blacker than the Blackest Night? From the pages of Dark Nights: Metal comes a Dark Multiverse retelling of the Green Lantern event that changed the DC Universe forever...only this time, the Black Lanterns win! Now, 23 days after the apocalypse, witness the rise of Sinestro as the Limbo Lantern! Trapped between life and death as a White and Black Lantern, Sinestro seeks to save the universe-or end his miserable life-once and for all! Joined by Dove, Lobo, and Mister Miracle, the last living beings in the universe will put everything on the line to give their world one final chance.

FALLEN ANGELS #1

This is the one "Dawn of X" book I know the least about, so I'm really intrigued. Bryan Hill has become one of my favorite new writers over the last couple years. I can't wait to see what he does with this interesting group of mutants.

Here's the solicit:

THE DAWN DOES NOT BREAK FOR ALL!
Psylocke finds herself in this new world of Mutantkind unsure of her place in it... but when a face from her past returns only to be killed, she seeks help from others who feel similar to get vengeance. Cable and X-23 join Kwannon for a personal mission that could jeopardize all Mutantkind!

FLASH #82

It wouldn't be my picks if I didn't include Flash. This is the arc I've been waiting for. I can't wait to see how Flash handles these new souped up Rogues. I'll say it again, this is DC's best and most underrated book. I'm surprised more people don't talk about it. but I guess that's what I'm here for. So go get this book people!!!

Here's the solicit:

"Rogues Reign" part one! The speed force is dead, doom has gripped the earth, and the FLASH lives in a nightmare! Powered-up by Lex Luthor's offer, Captain Cold led his team of Rogues to ultimate victory over Central City. Through the might of Mirror Master's amplified abilities, the rogues have re-shaped reality itself into their own kingdoms of cruelty - Heat Wave's volcanic territory, Weather Wizard's floating armory of the elements, and at the center of it all, the icy castle of Captain Cold. But with the villains stealing the show, why is the greatest threat to their reign one of their own?

GENEVIEVE'S PICK

RV9 #1

Mad Cave Studios was teasing this comic for months now and I couldn't be happier that this day is finally here where we can open the beautiful pages of this new series. The art is super nice as always, colors are calling my name. The story is action packed with a touch of humor.

Here’s the solicit:

Former assassin Velveteen is on the run from the Order of the 9, the organization that took her from her family and forced her into a life where all she knows is secrecy, violence, and death. Now, after years of running, she is bringing the fight to them. With help from an American hacker, Jasper, and a rookie officer with an attitude, Inspector Pazzi, Velveteen will use everything she was taught by the Order of the 9 against them.

TREVOR'S PICKS

FAR SECTOR #1

When DC announced all those Young Animal titles making their way to shelves, way back, this one caught my attention the most. A Green Lantern in charge of a planet of people that have no feelings sounds like an awesome place to explore the power of the emotional spectrum with our anime sunglasses rookie!

Here's the solicit:

N.K. Jemisin, the acclaimed, award-winning author of The Broken Earth and Inheritance science fiction trilogies, makes her comic book debut with bestselling Naomi artist Jamal Campbell as they thrust you into a stunning sci-fi murder mystery on the other side of the universe!
For the past six months, newly chosen Green Lantern Sojourner "Jo" Mullein has been protecting the City Enduring, a massive metropolis of 20 billion people. The city has maintained peace for over 500 years by stripping its citizens of their ability to feel. As a result, violent crime is virtually unheard of, and murder is nonexistent.
But that's all about to change in this new maxiseries that gives a DC Young Animal spin to the legacy of the Green Lanterns!

BLACK CAT ANNUAL #1

I am constantly surprised and happy with how much I've been enjoying the Black Cat series. Felicia is the sassy anti hero I never knew I needed. With this one being a wedding between her and our favorite web slinger (despite his current relationship), my curiosity for this cat has been caught.

Here's the solicit:

You are cordially invited to the wedding of Black Cat and Spider-Man!
•  In lieu of gifts, please turn off all your security systems, laser grids and counterweight giant stone traps.
•  All this AND a bonus story?!
